Folio Writer is a writing studio for scholarly manuscripts — journal articles, grant proposals, theses, and books. It pairs Scrivener-style structure (a binder of sections, a corkboard, an outliner) with plain-text files the writer owns: every document is readable Markdown or Typst on disk. Citations come from BibTeX or Zotero and render live alongside LaTeX math; one click compiles the manuscript to a typeset PDF, Word, LaTeX, EPUB, or HTML, with journal templates for Elsevier, IEEE, and NSF proposals. The Mac app is free to write in, with a one-time purchase (no subscription) for compiling and advanced tools; the iPhone and iPad companion is completely free. There are no accounts and no analytics — projects are files in the writer's own folders and iCloud.
